On Saturday, March 25, Maxwell Zweemer (Class of 2022) received the highest echelon of being a Scout; the Eagle Scout. During the ceremony, as is tradition, the newly ranked Eagle Scout gives a “Mentor Pin” to someone who he feels was a mentor to him. This year, as a surprise, Max chose Mr. Stracco. When Max announced Mr. Stracco as his mentor Max mentioned “I didn’t know whether or not to tell you about this.” Mr. Stracco returned with “I am so glad you didn’t, it would have ruined the surprise and you did indeed surprise me.” Mr. Stracco was Max’s teacher for English 100, English 400 as well as Public Speaking.
When asked about being honored, Mr. Stracco said, “Honored indeed. I have always thought highly of Max. He is a true scholar and gentleman and I was proud of him in achieving Eagle Scout. For him to choose me as his mentor only reiterates why I became a teacher thirty years ago. Max always has and will continue to remind me that when the educational world gets crazy, our students, like Max, are the reason why I entered education. ”
In attendance at the ceremony were other Scouts who are students of Mr. Stracco. Freddie Liller (Class of 2022), Kyran McQuade (Class of 2018), Brandon McQuade (Class of 2026), and Aidan Allhouse (Class of 2025).
