Popcert is always a fun night at RHS, and this year was among the best. With songs ranging from musical theater to rock (there was even one hip-hop performance), it had diverse acts. There were also crazy stunts that you may only know about if you went or heard from someone who went. Let’s hear from the participants what Popcert 41 was like!
Bell Spencer: Cocoon by Dayglow
- Why did you choose that song?
I really like the message and it fits my vocal range
- What was it like to be on stage?
I loved it, it was really awesome, hearing everyone cheer and clap. Being on stage is really fun
- What was it like watching the other performances?
It was nice, I liked Noel Rodriguez’s song. It was nice to hear the cheers in the crowd after my performance and watching the other people perform.
- What was the most memorable part of Popcert 41?
During my song, when everyone was clapping during the slow part and clapping the rhythm.
Noel Rodriguez: I Wonder Who She’s Kissin’ Now by TV Girl

- Why did you choose that song?
I need to bring some more vintage pop songs into the event. TV Girl does not have that many school-appropriate songs, so I was lucky to find this song and it’s easy to learn. And hey, it stands out, too!
- What was it like to be on stage?
It says a lot that I almost threw up after I performed. You just gotta do what you gotta do, and let the panic later ‘cuz obviously it won’t last that long.
- What was it like watching the other performances?
I’m proud of them.
- What was the most memorable part of Popcert 41?
Just being there and having my friends be there for me.
Carlos Echeverry: Simple Man
- Why did you choose that song?
The reason I chose that song is because the lyrics resonated deeply with my soul. And I love to sing and that song represents a life of simplicity and just taking life slow.
- What was it like to be on stage?
Being on stage in general is a great feeling because you get to perform. Being on Popcert felt like an out of body experience because I got to sing with all my peers and in front of an audience that loved the music.
- What was it like watching the other performances?
I was very proud to watch everyone showcase their talents, especially the people who I hadn’t seen sing before.
- What was the most memorable part of Popcert 41?
The most memorable part was the last song where we all sang together and it just felt very unified and like we were all connected.
Grace Methe & Vivienne Virostko: Mama who Bore Me, Reprise, Good Night, Saigon
- Why did you choose that song?
We chose the first song because we thought it fit us the best and it just has so much you can play around with. And for Good Night, Saigon, we were asked to sing it as a group. - What was it like to be on stage?
It was so much fun getting to perform as a big group of friends and expressing our love for performance and music infront of our friends and family - What was it like watching the other performances?
Exhilarating! It was great to see how much passion different people had for different types of music. - What was the most memorable part of Popcert 41?
Dante did a backflip on stage. I didn’t get to see it but I heard it was epic.
Sophia Lanchipa: Back to Black by Amy Whinehouse
- Why did you choose that song?
I chose it because I have a deeper voice and it just fit better with my vocal range. It’s a song I really liked. - What was it like to be on stage?
It was really interesting to see the wide range of talent of people at RHS, especially the people who performed who weren’t part of the music program. - What was it like watching the other performances?
It was nerve racking at first but when I got comfortable with my song, I got into the flow with it and could show emotion and passion in my voice. - What was the most memorable part of Popcert 41?
Probably the applause at the end.
As expected, Popcert 41 was a great show to attend. Different from last year, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. Below, you can see a gallery of the pictures.
