March 26th, 2025 was a special night at Rutherford High School. Courtesy of the French and Spanish Club students, they were once again able to hold a “café night” with performances by many talented RHS Students. Decorated with flowers, streamers, and balloons, the cafeteria was packed with delighted students who came for a night of entertainment.
Students were encouraged to bring an assortment of desserts, meaning that there was something for everyone. There ended up being three long tables worth of food for anyone to snack on. There were cupcakes with a sign of Marie Antoinette saying “Let them eat cake.” Boxes filled with a variety of cakes, cookies, and brownies. Plates stacked with cannolis, donuts, and muffins. Off to the side, there was a drink table with a variety of sodas. At the end of the night, with so much food, students and staff members were welcome to take bags and fill them up with their favorite foods from the banquet.
The Performances
The true highlight of the night was the many performances. The event gave the spotlight to RHS students who were able to sing and even play an instrument. This list of talented stars includes Evelyn Chen, Bell Spencer, Niki Nikolova, Hailey Moran, Ryan Baik, Gabriel Rosado, Kaito Pepito, Marina Abadir, RJ Cusick, and Samantha Munera. The crowd went wild and cheered for these individuals. Wonderful job to everyone who performed!
The following are questions that Ms. Yoda was happy to answer about the Soirée.
Q: What were your thoughts on the event?
A: I was so happy to see the French Soiree continue this year. It has been a fantastic social event in the past and this year definitely measured up. I was so pleased to see so many students from the French and Spanish classes come together to hang out, enjoy cafe style treats and spectacular student performances!
Q: What went well and what do you and the Spanish/French Club do to prepare for it?
A: Hailey Moran, Lucy Olivo and Sahana J really led the way. Without them, the event would not have happened. They organized everything from the performances, the beautiful decor, and ticket sales. I’d like to thank all of the French club and Spanish club members who helped with set up and bringing such delicious treats! We decided to go with a Cafe vibe this year which allowed for time to mingle, interact with one another and 45 minutes worth of unbelievable student performances.
Q: Are there any plans for doing something similar next year and if so, what would you do differently?
A: I hope to see the tradition continue. We are very excited to welcome Mrs. Alvarado to RHS as our new French teacher next year. I am confident she will work to plan something for us all to enjoy! Whether that be French themed or a combined effort with the Spanish club, only time will tell. But it is very important for the students to be involved in planning an event as successful as this.
