On June 18, 2025, the Art Club traveled to the Kindergarten Center to put on its second educational sock puppet show — intertwining classic childhood fables with whimsical theatrics.
Finn, a young fox who struggles to pay attention in school, embarks on a field trip back in time guided by his history teacher, Ms. Belle, to see the legends of old for themselves. Along the way, the students witness five stories play out — “The Ugly Duckling,” “The Three Little Pigs,” “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “Hansel & Gretel,” and “The Lion and the Mouse” — learning valuable life lessons during their adventures.
But just how exactly did these little sock puppets come to be in the first place?
Setting the Scene: A Brief History
Once upon a time, in the not-so-far away land known as the Ceramics Room, the Art Club decided to make sock puppets as its club activity during a meeting last year. From this, an assortment of random characters were created — from an enchanting mermaid to a fearsome dragon to a wise blue worm of wisdom — leading to the original cast of characters.
Naturally, an idea sprung to life:
What if the club put together a puppet show using these characters?
And thus began the workings of a script, stage, and accompanying props alike. However, any good show needs a proper audience! And so, the club arranged to perform for the kindergarteners at the end of the school year.
The First Show
As it was the club’s first go at organizing and executing a project like this, the performance didn’t certainly come without its hiccups.
Namely, aside from having to write a cohesive storyline about the characters everyone made, there were also at least 7 different consecutive performances — tiring out the actors behind the scenes. Also, some of the “special effects” incorporated into the show (such as having the kids being spritzed with water) was met with some mixed feedback from the kindergarteners.
As such, the club banded together to put on an even better show for next year — using more familiar characters and implementing more realistic expectations.
The Second Show
With the raving reviews from last year, the Art Club was able to get a hold of a much larger room this time around — allowing for multiple classes to attend at the same time. This halved the number of performances, which allowed the actors to not tire themselves out as quickly.
Additionally, the increased usage of sound effects (especially the club’s imitation of the Twilight Zone opening theme sound effect) was a hit with the kids, sending them into fits of elated giggling and laughter.
This, combined with a much more streamlined story — writing the script first and then making the characters — made for a 5-star performance!
Although the Art Club may have had its curtain call for this year, it plans to return next year with a brand-new story to perform.
What is that you ask? You’ll just have to wait and see!
