Top Dogs: Rutherford Girls Volleyball Team Wins NJIC Conference Championship

The Rutherford Girls Volleyball Team won the first-ever NJIC Conference Championship on Wednesday, October 30th against the Bogota Bucs (24-4) at Wood-Ridge High School. 

The game was intense from the start with the first set ending at 26-24. Although the Bulldogs came out victorious, Bogota tenaciously fought back to establish a strong lead in the second set. The Bulldogs were down at various times in the second set, but they ultimately bested the Bucs 25-22 for a 2-0 match win. 

Jenna Rogers (senior) led the offense with an impressive 17 kills as well as putting up 3 blocks. Setter Mia Capobianco (senior) had 19 assists, 8 service points, and 2 aces. Erin Augusterfer (senior) boasted 2 kills and 7 digs, while Emilia McCarthy (senior) had 8 digs and 3 service points.

This year has been an exciting one for this Bulldogs team, remaining undefeated at 27-0. Earlier this year, senior captain Jenna Rogers notably broke her sister’s school record with 1,183 kills (and counting). The team is seeded at #1 in the NJSIAA Group 2 tournament, set to begin on November 5, 2019.
