History was made at Rutherford High School with the addition of a female lacrosse team. Coached by Sherrianne Herninko and Kaitlyn Jones, the team is composed of mainly underclassmen, with 8 freshmen, 7 sophomores, and 2 juniors. Although the program is still trying to gain traction with a 1-9 record, the team is growing and improving each day.
This season was irregular in that none of the games were officially part of a conference. Since the program is so new, pick-up games were how the team got some experience and immersed themselves at the high school level.
The season came to an end on May 23, 2022 when they lost 13-12 to Dwight-Englewood HS. It was a close game and an amazing final battle for the Bulldogs.
This is a historic moment for Rutherford. The very first female lacrosse team had a hardworking, fun, progressive season this spring. The girls will continue to learn and battle through the next season and will come back stronger next season.
